Algiers Folk Art Zone
This art hot spot was founded by artist Charles Gillam in the year 2000. It showcases beautiful works of art that showcase the state’s “rich musical heritage”.
Some of the artists of the featured works include Roy Ferdinand, Lonnie Holley, and Mr. Imagination. Additionally, of course, Gillam’s pieces are showcased in the museum as well. His “Blues Greats” series includes sculpted faces of Pete Fountain, Memphis Minnie, Al Hirt, and Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown.
Folk Art Fest
The Algiers Folk Art Zone & Blues Museum will be hosting the 6th annual Folk Art Fest on November 4, 2017. This anticipated event is scheduled to take place from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m., and will feature lots of activities and entertainment for your enjoyment. Head out to the museum located at 207 Leboeuf St, New Orleans, LA 70114, and let the fun begin!
What to Expect
When you arrive, expect to see numerous art pieces for sale by a variety of artists. There will be everything from pottery and sculptures to paintings and jewelry pieces at this event. So, stop by and take a look at what’s available. Then, purchase a unique, one-of-a-kind piece for yourself.
The featured artists will include Charles Gillam, Sr., Dylan Bell, Jennifer Blanchard, Maggie McEleney, Paul “Jawbone” Douroux, Dianne Baquet, Cely Pedescleaux, Chris Grisaffe, Jennifer Cart, Nate Scott, Destiny Fields, Ransom McCormick, Jr., and Robin Fournet.
There will also be live music performances from some of New Orleans’ top music artists. Listen to soulful tunes from the likes of Brian Murray Traditional Jazz Band, Marcel Anton Trio, Paul Sanchez, “Yats” Benny Grunch and the Bunch, and the Confetti Park Players.
Additionally, there will be fun and games available for the kids to enjoy. Be sure to take them over to the Arts & Crafts station, provided by Confetti Kids, a local non-profit organization in Algiers Point.
Hungry? Head over to the available concessions. There will be food trucks at the Folk Art Fest, featuring delicious food that you are sure to love. Also, for the adults, refreshing beer and wine as well. Take your pick of which drink you’d like to have for the day!
